from The Boston Globe‘s Big Picture feature…

The year 2009 is now coming to a close, and it’s time to take a look back over the past 12 months through photographs. Historic elections were held in Iran, India and the United States, some wars wound down while others escalated, China turned 60, and the Berlin Wall was remembered 20 years after it came down. Each photo tells its own tale, weaving together into the larger story of 2009. 120 photographs in total, in 3-parts.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, each of the 3 parts contains at least one picture from the attack on Gaza and more of the wider Israel/Palestine conflict.

Jan 1: Northern Gaza Strip

Jan 17: UN school in Beit Lahia

Oct 23: Demonstrator uses a tennis racket to return an empty tear gas canister in Bilin, West Bank.

Sep 10: 5yo Palestinian boy at center for the blind & visually impaired in Beit Hanina, East Jerusalem.

Jan 2: Rocket fired by Palestinian militants from the northern Gaza Strip.

Jun 2: Israeli boy takes cover under a desk during a drill at a school bomb shelter in Jerusalem.

May 22: Palestinian demonstrator and Jewish settler during a settlement protest in Hebron.
